Describe your hair before you tried this Organix Smoothing Treatment. What didn’t you like about it?

Prior to using Organix Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy, I did not like the overall condition of my hair: dry with brittle appearing ends, excessively tangled, dull and difficult to manage any form of hair style. I would wash and style my hair to be the best of my ability each morning, but by the time I arrived to my office my hair didn’t look the way it did prior to leaving the house. My hair would fall limp where I had applied hairspray or it appeared as if I had a shelf in front – ouch. I walked around with my hair like this for years. Double ouch.

Have you tried similar products before? At home or in the salon? Were your results satisfactory?

I had previously tried deep conditioning products by Paul Mitchell and Redkin at home but the results were not intense nor long lasting. I still had plenty of waves in my hair, far less tangled but I never gained control of my hair for styling.

The process was virtually effortless. After I applied the product I waited the full 30 minutes before blow drying. My expectations were to really have more straight hair and shiny. I kept expectations low as I had never previously come across a product that loved my hair so much! The product far exceeded my anticipated expectations – I was in awe.

I can’t imagine going back to the “old” hair I used to have, O-M-G NO! I have also recommended this product to my friends. The greatest part is their initial reaction to the appearance of my hair, they get past that and then ask “what did you do?” Thus, I share my wonderful experience and they can’t get over the transformation and the price – we’re cost conscious minded, more value for the dollar is our hope, the results far outweigh the cost – I am still in awe – thank you very much.

I am a customer of life and here is why.

Using this product has not changed my hair but transformed it. I have not used that term often in my day to day life. I am no longer obsessed with washing my hair each morning and “wishing” for it to look okay. You’ve seen the headlines – winter arrived early this year, dumping snow on much of the east coast just in time for Halloween. With cold weather, we get that frustrating flyaway, static hair. Argh!!! So what can you do to keep your hair in place and looking great, regardless of what Mother Nature throws our way?

First, let’s look at what causes flyaway hair, and why it happens primarily in the winter. It all goes back to atoms, and that proton/neutron/electron stuff you learned way back in elementary school. (Who knew it would relate to managing your hair? Maybe we would have paid more attention!)

The electrons in an atom have a negative charge. They are loose, floating around the center, and can move from atom to atom. The protons in the center have a positive charge. An atom that loses electrons, such as when two items are rubbed together, has more positive charge because it has more protons left than electrons.

Back to your hair: when you take off your winter hat, it rubs against your hair. Electrons move from your hair to the hat. A static charge builds up because now each of the hairs has a positive charge. Things with the same charge repel each other. (Think magnets.) So your hair strands try to get as far from each other as possible, standing up and away from the others. The result? A bad hair day.

Doing a bit of research on my own, I’m noticing quite a few of TV’s leading ladies in oh-so-smooth hairdos with side swept bangs. Whether it’s Tina Fey or Christina Hendricks, Kate Winslet or the gals from Glee, bangs are framing these famous faces. Fortunately for the rest of us, this is an easy act to follow.

If you haven’t tried bangs since elementary school, this is a great style to experiment with. Side swept bangs are long enough to be versatile. When you don’t want them, you can pull them back and incorporate them into your longer strands. From the CEO to the kid in the mailroom, the recession has left no job unturned. Employers are searching for ways to cut back and employees are overworking themselves to make sure they’re not the ones on the chopping block. Question is, what happens when the stress starts to appear on more than just the face?

One of the symptoms of a heightened level of stress is hair loss. It’s not uncommon so don’t feel bad if you’re in your 20s or 30s and it’s happening sooner than you expected. There is hope for preservation of the hairline. View it as an indication that stress management needs to kick in. It would still be recommended to see a doctor just to make sure stress is the culprit of hair loss. Here are some ways to manage the stress in your life:

1. Make positivity #1- Well…yes, it’s number one on this list but make it number one in your life as well. Whether it’s refusing to wallow in your disappointment about being passed over for a promotion or pressing ‘Ignore’ when that one friend calls to dump all her issues on you (and yes, we all have one of those friends), it’s time to let go of negativity and move forward. Encourage yourself when you wake up. Make a decision that you are going to conquer the day! You can do it! You’ll feel better for it!

2. Learn to say “N-O!”- Think of the D.A.R.E. program when we were in school. The slogan was “Just say No!” Why? Because drugs are bad for your body! Stress is bad for your body too! Prioritize what’s important and move accordingly. You’re not a bad person if you say no! You’re extremely wise once you get this one down pat!

3. Break a sweat!- Seriously, stress can be reduced with a simple 30 minute walk around the neighborhood. Ever had a wardrobe malfunction? We’ve all been there… whether it is a run in your pantyhose, a broken heel, or just that dreaded static cling, these things happen. But sometimes it turns into a FASHION EMERGENCY!!! Imagine you have a presentation to give in front of a room full of people or an interview for your dream job, what do you do?

Here is an idea that has been a lifesaver. Grab a makeup bag or a pencil box and fill it with these common household items and store it in your car or office.

Sewing Kit - Use to darn holes or replace buttons or snaps.
Super Glue - A thin layer will reattach a flapping sole, broken heel or nail.
Baby Powder - Hair greasy? Sprinkle a bit on the roots to absorb excess oil.
Lint Brush - Got lint? Make it disappear in just a few quick rolls.

Straight from the Spring 2010 Catwalks of Fendi, YSL, and Lanvin and on to the Red Carpet, this spring trend is popping up everywhere. Here is a cheap trick to achieve this hot new look. Pick up a round mesh pot scrubber from your local grocery store for about $2, this makes the perfect base for your bun. Cut a hole in the middle, then slide your ponytail through the center. Next, wrap your hair all around the scrubber, fasten the ends with a hair pin and viola!

Summer is Almost Here

Summer is almost here... which means beautiful tans, sunscreen, brightly colored pedicures and perfect, wind-tossed hair! Hair care maintenance in the summertime is crucial. Whether you choose to let the sun work for you or against you is your choice but here are a few tips to have fabulous, healthy summer hair:

1. Drink PLENTY of water!!! Water is hydrating not only for your body but for your hair. It flushes out all the bad guys and keeps your hair looking fresh! So carry around your 64 oz. jug w/ a little lemon for convenience. If that doesn't work, find a routine that works for you. Schedule in water breaks. It's worth it! Your health is your wealth!

2. Befriend the Scissor!!! It's so important to trim ends. Hair can easily become more dry and brittle depending on the climate you live in. Add in the frequent visits to the beach/pool and more shampooing and conditioning than normal; without proper maintenance, you could have a disaster on your hands (or in this case, head). Trims should be done every 6-8 weeks or sooner, depending on instructions from a personal hair stylist.

3. Condition! Condition! Condition!!!! Chlorine, salt, sand, sun, hair dyes: these are elements that can destroy hair. That's why it's important to use a conditioning agent before getting in the water so that the hair has a protectant against the elements. For ladies who are ready to color and dye, know that the blond highlights will not be lovely if not properly conditioned! Spring 2010 Trends

What’s hot this season? There are several new looks heavily influenced by the 2010 Spring catwalks and the good news is that they are super easy to master at home.

One style that was featured this year on the runways of Alexander Wang and Prada's Miu Miu was the long side braid. This style works best on medium to long hair and must be done with a side part (not a center part) that will be opposite the braid. Gather your hair to one side and then braid all the way down to the tips. Use a hair friendly rubber band to fasten and that’s it! Easy right?

The fabulous 40’s are back again this season with waves that are firm but not curly. Channel your favorite pin up with this look that is timeless. This throwback was seen at Christian Dior and is best on medium to long hair with a side part. For retro curls, use a large barrel curling iron or large rollers. Make sure to wind the hair around the tool of your choice starting at the tips. After all the curling is complete, use a hair brush and curve the curls around your hand so they roll inward. Brush the curls lightly, you want to soften them without creating too much separation.

Think 70’s Cher. This ultra sleek style definitely works on super long hair. Done with a side or center part, use a flat iron to get hair stick straight. Seen on the runway of Anna Sui, 1970’s inspired long hair. Disco!

Gel slicked hairstyles. There are three variations to this trend. The first is a look that is slicked straight back. Start with wet hair and then apply gel to the palm of your hands, rub together and smooth hair from the front of the forehead all the way back to the crown. Use a wide tooth comb to provide the texture and go with the wet look. This style screams attitude and was seen on the runways of Alexander Wang and Thakoon. The second look is a gel slicked side. It is a mutation of the 2009’s side shaved head made famous by Rhianna. This style is best suited for short hair. Simply apply gel to the sides of your hair and slick from the temple to behind the ear. This was popular at the Roberto Cavalli show. Last but not least is this gender bending look found on the runways of Gucci. Known as masculine or androgynous slicked hair, this style goes great with this years fashion trend, the female dandy and works best on short hair, especially those pixie crops. Start with a strongly defined side part that is as far over to the side as is suitable to your face. Use gel to slick everything down, not back.

Well, it is that time of year again and the countdown has begun. This season you might say that old fashioned glamour is back! Save the boho waves for the weekend, big night hair looks like it took work. Here are some easy tips to achieve that retro, showstopping, old Hollywood glamour.

Use a curling iron to define waves, volumizers and hot rollers add height, but stay away from the little ones and these will leave curls too tight. Updos require bobby pins and statement making accessories.

Master the pin curl! During the 40s, the pin curl set formed the foundation of most styles. Pin curls were used on all types, textures and lengths of hair but were especially popular for the shorter styles.

Pin curls have the advantage of being fairly easy to create after a little practice. They are also easier to sleep in compared to the brush or large Velcro style rollers. If you're a beginner with pin curls or want to mix up the style a bit, experiment with mixing up different sets.

Try and alternate between larger and smaller loops or working with different types of parts ranging from a center to a deep side part. Set rows of pin curls, alternating the direction of the curls, clockwise and counter-clockwise. Consider placing the curls so that they alternate between curling toward the front or towards the back of your face. By alternating the direction of the pin curls, your tresses will coil into beautiful deep waves when you remove the pins.

Another option is to only apply pin curls to isolated sections of the hair or to just the top or just the bottom. Keep in mind that you can easily dictate the size of the waves by adjusting the size of the curls.

Here are some tips from hairboutique.com

1. Start by using a comb with a rat tail or if you prefer, use a fine toothed comb. From personal experience I can tell you that creating pin curls can be difficult without the proper comb.

2. Using the tail of the comb create a clean, deep part in your hair.

3. Carefully section off a 1" inch section of hair for a medium sized curls. Section off a smaller section for tighter curls and larger sections for looser curls.

4. Comb the new section until it is completely smooth.

5. Spritz the section with a spray bottle filled with water or you can experiment with a hairspray or super volumizing tonic.

6. Hold the section of hair flatly against your scalp with one finger.

7. Take the end of the section and wind in a clockwise position around the opposite index finger forming a complete circle. Keep in mind that for the best style, form a round curl and not an oval one.

Note: Be sure not to twist the hair as you wind it. Make sure that the ends are tucked inside of the curl and curl is pinned right on top of it natural hair base. Do not pin the curl away from the base of the curl.

8. Holding the end of the curl with the thumb of the same hand, slip the curl off the index finger letting the end naturally fold inward.

9. Continuing to hold the curl between the thumb and forefinger, finish winding it. Place it flat against the scalp. Clip it with a hair clip or two through the middle of the curl.

Note: If you prefer, you can use more than one clip on each curl. When using more than one clip, crisscross the clips to form an X configuration.

10. Press against the curl to make sure that the ends don't escape.
Note: You may wish to work with end papers available from most large beauty supply stores.

11. Once the curl is formed according to your desire, use a single or double pronged clip and slide it carefully over the newly formed curl to hold it in place.

Note: Keep in mind that many people prefer the double prong clips for sleeping comfort. Under no circumstance should you use bobby pins which will form dents in the hair and may add to overall frizziness.

12. Make sure that the curl is anchored tightly by the clip, especially if you plan to sleep in the set overnight.

13. Divide and conquer. Work in a uniform pattern when creating the curls, working from side to side and from top to bottom of the head.

14. Spray well with hairspray or styling spray. Sit under a hood dryer to set the style or sleep on the style overnight.

15. When styling, unclip one curl at a time. Use fingers to arrange the curls in the desired style.

Additional tips:

The more hair you use, the looser the curls. The less hair, the tighter.

The tighter the loop, the tighter the curl.

Hair needs to be damp, not wet to hold the set.

The longer the clips are in place, the stronger the set.

Sleep in the clips overnight or if that is not possible, sit under a hood dryer.

If you have a shaggy, chunky or other hair cut that renders the strands uneven, use end papers (available at a beauty supply store) or roll your hair in clean strips of unscented plain toilet paper. This keeps all the curls uniform, neat and prevents the dreaded hook ends that may occur.

Practice clipping from the top of the clip to guarantee a tight hold.

Use smooth clips, without ridges, if possible, to prevent creases.

Once it’s towel dried, pump some mousse into your palm (with the non-aerosol pump, enviro-friendly!). Use your fingers and apply the mousse from root to tip. This gives your hair a little boost and some extra body to support the Styling Whip.
